Raceday focus: Best bets, analysis for the Hamilton program

Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over the eight-race card at Hamilton on Tuesday.

THE MOORS (Race 6 No. 1 – $4.40)

Ran on well when narrowly beaten at Swan Hill second-up and this looks the right race the for The Moors at Hamilton. The Moors will be fitter for that outing and will be hard to hold out from the good gate.

CORNER POCKET (Race 3 No. 1 – $1.75)

The first bet of the Hamilton meeting is short but should he hard to beat after two promising efforts at Ballarat to start his career. Declan Bates should give the Lindsey Smith-trained four-year-old every chance from barrier three.

UNDER HIS EYE (Race 5, No. 5 – $6)

Under His Eye makes his debut for the Mark Young stable at Hamilton on Tuesday. He struggled behind Ultimate Edition at Bendigo last start but his previous runs were good enough. Worth another chance, especially at about $6.

RUE ROYALE (Race 7 No. 6 – $3.70)

Rue Royale ran on honest race on the speed before fading late at Warrnambool first-up. She’ll improve off that run and she is yet to miss a place second-up. Declan Bates sticks with the five-year-old on Tuesday.

MISSOURI WALTZ (Race 4, No. 11 – $6)

Missouri Waltz only beat one runner home when resuming at Bendigo but that was on heavy ground last time out. She’ll be fitter and will improve sharply on firmer footing.

Declan Bates rode a couple of winners at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup carnival and looks well-placed for more success with five rides at Hamilton on Tuesday.

CORNER POCKET (Race 3 No. 1, $1.75), MISSOURI WALTZ (Race 4 No. 11, $5), LEAKED (Race 5 No. 6, $6.50), KODAKHAN (Race 6, No. 9 $23), RUE ROYALE (Race 7 No. 6, $3.70).
