Raceday focus: Best bets, analysis for Sandown on Wednesday

Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over Wednesday’s card at Sandown.

OVER THE SKY (Race 8 No. 6 – 2.90)

Won as he liked when resuming at Warrnambool and will only be fitter. Over The Sky is a promising type that looks capable of racing through his grades this winter.

MAC ‘N’ CHEESE (Race 2 No. 8 – $2.25)

Mac ‘N’ Cheese was unlucky to go down narrowly on debut at Bendigo last time and the form out the race stood up at Caulfield last Saturday. Expect her to go one better this time.

LAUGHING GRIZZLEY (Race 5 No. 5 – $6.50)

Laughing Grizzley is a stayer of promise that has earned his crack at a city race after two excellent wins on the provincial circuit. There’s no reason he can’t measure up again on Wednesday.

SCANTOON (Race 7 No. 14 – $6.50)

Scantoon went down narrowly to the handy Seb Song, who ran OK at Caulfield, when second first-up at Cranbourne. He’ll be fitter for that and expect him to be around the mark at Sandown.

MISTAKE (Race 4 No. 2 – $14)

Mistake has an excellent first-up record of three wins from four attempts and might be over the odds on Wednesday. The 1000m is his go and he could be in this for a long way.

Jamie Kah missed Saturday’s Caulfield meeting to ride in Brisbane on Saturday but the punters’ princess will be back in action at Sandown with six rides. WRITE THE SCORE (Race 1 No. 9 – $2), SPOONING (Race 3 No. 2 – $2.50), RUNAWAY TRAIN (Race 5 No. 12 – $5.50), AYAHUASCA (Race 6 No. 15 – $11), FIERY RED (Race 7 No. 9 – $9), EXCELLERATION (Race 8 No. 8 – $4.60).

Wangaratta will host Thursday’s fixture before the industry gets back to the Pakenham Synthetic track on Friday. Saturday’s meetings will be at Flemington and Bendigo. Bairnsdale and Geelong will be the venues for Sunday’s provincial cards. Ballarat will race on the synthetic track on Monday.
