Chapada on Saturday won his way into the Caulfield Cup seven days later – and now he has a jockey booked.
And it shows the swings and roundabouts of racing, with Jye McNeil booked to ride the Mike Moroney stayer next Saturday.
McNeil had been booked for highly-touted Lloyd Williams stayer Orderofthegarter but the Danny O’Brien-trained galloper is out of the Caulfield Cup after running last in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes.
Damien Oliver rode Orderofthegarter in the Herbert Power but McNeil was booked to have the ride in the Caulfield Cup, where the galloper was handed 51kg.
McNeil confirmed he will now ride Chapada, who will carry 50.5kg in the Caulfield Cup.
“I was very disappointed (in relation to Orderofthegarter) but that’s obviously how quickly things can change,” McNeil, the reigning champion Victorian jockey, said.
“I’m riding Chapada.”
Chapada is now a $21 chance in the Caulfield Cup.
McNeil has hired a fitness trainer to help him get down to 51kg and now he will have to ride at a lighter weight.
But he is already well on the way to his weight loss goal, thanks to a regular boxing regime.
