Herbert Power Stakes winner Chapada earned a 1.5kg weight penalty for the Melbourne Cup for his win last Saturday’s Caulfield event.
Chapada forced his way in the Caulfield Cup field with his Herbert Power Stakes win.
The Mike Moroney-trained stayer could not be penalised for the Caulfield Cup, meaning he will carry only 50.5kg in Saturday’s race.
But he will now carry 52kg if he makes the Melbourne Cup field.
Chapada moved to 45th in line for a start in the Melbourne Cup, which features a maximum field of 24 runners.
“He was very strong at the end of the Herbert Power defeating Zebrowski and Platinum Invador who have 52kg and 53kg respectively in the Melbourne Cup,” Racing Victoria’s chief handicapper Greg Carpenter said.

“Saturday’s Group 2 victory further enhanced Chapada’s excellent record at 2400m and beyond, which includes placings in the 2018 VRC Derby and 2019 Sandown Classic.”
However, the Matt Cumani-trained Future Score was not penalised for his win in Sunday’s Cranbourne Cup.
Future Score is likely to head to the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) at Flemington on October 31 in a final attempt to force his way into the Melbourne Cup on November 3.
