Non-league side Enfield Town football club has partnered with the UK arm of the WWE for its 20-year anniversary.

Enfield Town will sport the WWE NXT UK crest on the front of their match-day shirts this season, starting with their first home league fixture against Brightlingsea Regent on August 21.

Wrestling legend and founder of television programme WWE NXT Triple H announced the ‘first-of-its-kind’ partnership in a minute-long video clip on Thursday.

The Towners currently play in the Isthmian League Premier Division where they opened their 2021/22 campaign with a 4-2 win over Carshalton Athletic on Saturday.

Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque delivered the surprising news to fans, saying: “Not only is it a big week for WWE with SummerSlam on Saturday and NXT TakeOver 36 on Sunday, but it’s a big week for the UK as the football season has returned.

“Enfield in London has played a big part in the journey of NXT UK since the opening of our UK Performance Centre.

“That’s why I’m proud to announce today the first of its kind partnership between NXT UK and Enfield Town Football Club in celebration of their 20th anniversary.

“As the UK’s first supporter-owned football club, they share our passion in putting fans at the centre of everything we do.”

WWE, which is the world’s biggest wrestling company, has a performance centre based in Enfield which is used for try-outs and for their contracted British talent to train.

The deal also sees the brand’s logo worn on the women's reserve team’s home shirt along with various digital signs around the club’s Queen Elizabeth II Stadium throughout the season.

Enfield chairman Paul Reed said: “For a fan-owned club committed to delivering a sense of community and entertainment to the local area, to have a partner with the magnitude and ethos of WWE is truly special.

“Our vision is one of inclusivity and equality for all and to be a social centre for Enfield, and we welcome NXT UK as part of the family in our 20th anniversary year.”
