Tom Charlton, 76, said 1966 legends Jack, who died last year, and Sir Bobby, 83, who has dementia, would be “over the moon” at the Three Lions’ success. And he believes the young England stars can lift the Euro 2020 trophy and become “immortal”.

Tom, of Rotherham, said of his siblings: “They couldn’t possibly be anything else but proud of them.

“I do think we could win it. Can you imagine what it would do to the country after what we’ve been through the last few years?”

He added: “Bob, being the sort of guy he is, would appreciate the finer points that come through, the Harry Kanes and the [Raheem] Stirlings.

“If Stirling played on the team with Bob, I’m sure he would have fed Bob some wonderful goals.
