West Ham signing Gianluca Scamacca’s dad ‘smashed up Roma players’ cars in fury’

The dad of West Ham new boy Gianluca Scamacca was arrested after he allegedly stormed Roma's training ground and smashed cars up with an iron bar.

Emiliano Scamacca was supposedly wearing a Sassuolo shirt – the team his son is set to join the Hammers from in a reported £30.5million move – when he approached the Trigoria complex in May 2021.

It was claimed he headed straight for the car park, where he was said to have destroyed the windows of four or five cars, including the vehicle belonging to Roma's sporting director Tiago Pinto. His alleged motivation was unclear, with his son only playing for Il Giallorossi at youth level.

After Scamacca Sr ventured towards a pitch where youth players were training and was said to have sparked fear amongst the coaches, he was detained by officers who had been called to the scene.

Italy international Scamacca, 23, was left shocked by the incident. Speaking told Gazzetta.it: "I am badly shaken by what happened and what I read. I really don't know how to explain it.

"It is painful for me to talk about this, but perhaps it is necessary. My father has not lived with my mother for a very long time. They aren't divorced, because they never married. I was raised by my mother and my sister. They are my family.

"We only have an occasional relationship. I see him very rarely. But this is a family issue that I prefer to keep to myself, so I ask people to respect my privacy.

"My father has never had anything to do with my career, especially in recent years. I am very disappointed and shaken by what happened, but I have such minimal contact with my father, I really wouldn't know what to say."

Scammaca has been a man in-demand after netting 16 goals in 36 games for Sassuolo last season, but West Ham look to have beaten PSG after agreeing a deal with the Serie A side.
