Varane breaks silence as Zidane gives Man Utd his transfer blessing

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane insisted his "future is clear" as he addressed speculation over a transfer away form the Spanish capital.

The Frenchman's next move is the subject of intense scrutiny as he approaches the final year of his deal with Los Blancos.

Manchester United have been keen on Varane for some time and Zinedine Zidane is reportedly willing to part ways with the player this summer rather than lose him for free next year.

But Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have since joined the race for the 28-year-old, who left the door open to a transfer as he faced the press on Monday.

"My future is clear. I am focused on the end of this season," Varane told reporters. "We are in a very intense and key moment."

Asked if he would like to stay in the Spanish capital beyond 2022, he added: "It is normal that my focus is on the end of the season.

"The message to the fans is that I am 100 per cent committed to the team.

"We have challenges that encourage us a lot. I am focused on giving everything on the field."

Varane was speaking ahead of the first leg of Real Madrid's Champions League semi-final with Chelsea on Tuesday, and he says he is "dreaming" of his fifth triumph in the competition.

"Every year is a learning process; I always try to have a more complete game," he said.

"Every year I try to improve, I've played a lot this year. We have the dream of finishing the season well.

"We are in the semi-finals of the Champions League. We want to finish the season well."

Real Madrid are also aiming to defend their La Liga crown and sit two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, although they are level on points with arch-rivals Barcelona, who have a game in hand.
