TV presenter loses it over "embarrassing" photo of Man Utd star Marcus Rashford

Australian TV star Lucy Zelic has raged at Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford for posing with an AFL ball.

The Red Devils star has been on a pre-season tour down under with the rest of the squad, who have enjoyed 4-0 and 4-1 wins over Liverpool and Melbourne Victory respectively. But the Englishman stirred up trouble this week after the Australian Football League posted a picture of him holding a Sherrin Aussie rules ball.

Former football presenter slammed both Rashford and the AFL over promoting a rival sport to football, claiming it to be the opposite of the purpose of United's tour. And the 24-year-old was even told to go and "pat a koala" instead.

Zelic fumed: "Can someone tell me what the point of this is? Is Marcus suddenly going to switch codes and sign for an AFL side?

"Go and pat a koala, meet with proud members of our Indigenous communities and spend time with grassroots FOOTBALL clubs. This is just f**king embarrassing."

The AFL is Australia's primary and only professional Aussie rules league, which is a contact sport consisting of 18 players on an oval field and considered to be a rival sport to football. Aussie rules is considered by some football fans to be stifling the progress of the alternative worldwide sport in Australia.

Zelic added: "This is a blatant PR exercise that Marcus was told to do, nothing more. Cross-code promotions are a waste of time. They should be appealing to FOOTBALL fans. As a code, the AFL and its representatives have done nothing but s*** on football time and time again.

"Who could forget in 09' when we bid for the WC (World Cup) and (former AFL CEO Andrew) Demetriou refused to give up Etihad for an INTERNATIONAL tournament. Agreeing to be part of this stupidity is just insulting."

United will next face fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace at the MCG on July 19, before playing their third friendly in Australia against Aston Villa at Perth’s Optus Stadium on July 23.
