Tuchel’s Chelsea could decide Premier League title in huge penultimate game

Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea could have a big say in the Premier League title race as the west Londoners face Manchester City in a huge penultimate game at the Etihad.

Last season's championship was decided by a single point as the Citizens edged past Liverpool via a dramatic final day comeback against Aston Villa. The Premier League fixtures have now been released for the 2022/23 campaign and eagle-eyed supporters were quick to spot a difficult a potentially tricky obstacle for Pep Guardiola's side in the final weeks of the season.

The Premier League champions take on third-place Chelsea in their penultimate fixture, where dropping points could prove costly if Liverpool are breathing down their neck again.

Man City managed to beat Chelsea home and away last season which effectively helped them bag the title. While Guardiola's men picked up six points against the Blues, title-rivals Liverpool could only muster two draws.

The Reds played out a 1-1 draw at Anfield in late October before seeing the spoils shared at Stamford Bridge after surrendering a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw in January.

Missing out on the title by a point, if Chelsea were to claim points against City in the 2022/23 campaign, the title pendulum could swing back in Liverpool's favour. Jurgen Klopp's side travel to Southampton on the final day of the season whilst Man City face a trip to Brentford.

Tuchel has already proven he has the edge over Guardiola in high-stake contests. The German boss guided Chelsea to a historic 1-0 victory over Man City in the Champions League final in 2021 as the Citizens look to exorcise their European hoodoo.

Kai Havertz's 42nd-minute goal proved the difference as the Blues claimed their second 'Old Big Ears' trophy, leaving a devastated Guardiola scratching his head. Also falling short in their Champions League exploits last term, the City boss has added proven firepower to his ranks with the acquisition of £51million man Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian forward has bagged an incredible 86 goals in 89 matches for Borussia Dortmund and the hope is the signing of an out-and-out goalscorer will finally end their European shortcomings.
