The January window is now open for business in the Premier League and around Europe, with clubs looking to add to their squads as we go into the second half of the campaign.

The window will typically open on January 1 for Premier League clubs, which is also the case in Scotland, Germany and France, while those in Italy and Spain had to wait until January 3 to make any signings.

A number of players have been linked with players already – with all eyes on Newcastle to see what business they will do under their new Saudi owners. Sportsmail’s CHARLOTTE DALY will keep you up-to-date.

Talks were advancing on Sunday night as Villa manager Steven Gerrard moved ahead of competition from Newcastle United, West Ham and Chelsea.

The 34-year-old – who joined the Old Trafford giants in October 2020 – has said he wants to stay at United to help improve the team’s fortunes.

The France international is said to be mulling over whether to commit his long-term future to Paris Saint-Germain.

Ibrahim Sangare has made 48 appearances for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven since joining from Toulouse on a five-year deal in 2020. 

Entering the last six months of his current deal at Tannadice, the Swiss is free to talk to interested clubs. On the radar of English Premier League side Southampton, the 29-year-old also has interest from Germany, France and Belgium.

Amad Diallo arrived from Atalanta to huge fanfare in a £25 million deal in January last year, but his opportunities at Old Trafford have been very limited so far.
