Tottenham are reportedly set to miss out on signing Antonio Rudiger with Chelsea in “constant contact” with AC Milan over the German defender.
Rudiger is yet to feature for Chelsea this season, and appears to have been frozen out by Frank Lampard.
The centre-back is expected to leave west London before tonight’s deadline, and has been linked to a host of clubs.
One of those has been Spurs, as well as AC Milan and PSG, but it appears a move across London won’t be on the cards.
Jose Mourinho is thought to be keen to sign a new centre-back before the 11pm deadline, and Rudiger was said to be open to joining Tottenham.
But Mourinho will have to look elsewhere, with AC Milan closing in on the Germany international, according to reports in Italy.
Calciomercato claim that Chelsea have been holding several conference calls with the Serie A side, who Rudiger is impressed by.
Milan have reportedly been asking the Blues to lower their season-long loan fee asking price for the 27-year-old.
And with the clock ticking down, the Premier League side may be left with no alternative.
Letting Rudiger leave would be a bad move, according to Lampard’s former Chelsea team-mate Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
“They’ve all made mistakes but for me their best centre-back is Rudiger,” the former Holland striker told Sky Sports.
“At the end of last season he didn’t have his best spell, he was out of the team but if you look at a whole season he has done the best.
“He normally smells danger and he clears it up. For Rudiger not to have played yet something is going on.”
