Rubin Kazan winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s agent has slammed his poor form after missing out on a move to Leeds United or Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. Kvaratskhelia’s agent has now suggested Rubin Kazan’s strategy has backfired, with his value rapidly dropping amid his struggles on the pitch.

Leeds and Tottenham were pursuing new wingers ahead of the 2021/22 season, and reports linked the 20-year-old with both clubs.

While Spurs’ interest was in the early stages, Leeds held talks with Kvaratskhelia’s representatives over a move to Elland Road.

But Marcelo Bielsa eventually strengthened his squad with Manchester United’s Daniel James in a £25million deadline day move.

And Nuno Espirito Santo acquired Sevilla winger Bryan Gil for £22m as Erik Lamela went the other way.

Kvaratskhelia was available for less than both but has started the season in poor form, scoring just one goal in Rubin Kazan’s opening eight league games.

His agent recently explained his struggles have split his value almost in half, with Spurs and Leeds seemingly dodging a bullet.

He told Comment Live: “Nobody signed Khvicha. His price is steadily falling. They asked for £17m (€20m) because, in the spring, he was on fire.

“Everyone then shouted that any English team would buy him, given they were scattering €30m to €40m to the left and to the right.

“But, in fact, no-one took him. Now he plays badly. Now, no-one will pay more than €10m to €12m.”

Leeds and Tottenham are unlikely to regret missing out on Kvaratskhelia, given the two young wingers they signed instead of the Georgian star.

Bielsa is thrilled to have James in his squad and believes his speed and agility will be vital assets.

“I think the decision to bring in James was the correct one by the club,” Bielsa explained after the Wales international’s arrival.

“He’s a player who can play on either side that combines his ability to unbalance the opponent. He passages into the empty spaces, considering his speed.”

Nuno has used Gil as a rotational player in N17, even using him as part of a midfield three in a Europa Conference League game against Pacos de Ferreira.

The Portuguese boss is aware Gil still has plenty to improve but could use him in midfield more based on his post-match comments.

He said: “I think Bryan did a good game in a different position in the midfield today. He was full of energy, and this is what we wanted, reaction to the loss of the ball, talent.

“He brings talent and every time he goes to the final third of the pitch his is a player who needs to improve in his decision-making but we are here to support him.”
