Sir Alex Ferguson sent personal video to Harry Maguire on his wedding day

Sir Alex Ferguson sent Manchester United captain Harry Maguire a personal message for his wedding.

The 29-year-old centre-back married Fern Hawkins last weekend as they enjoyed a stunning wedding in France. The Red Devils skipper surprised his new wife with a £40,000 diamond-encrusted white gold eternity ahead of their £500,000 ceremony with the words ‘H and F forever’.

But perhaps the most impressive feature of the wedding was that legendary United manager Sir Alex recorded a personal message which was played at the ceremony, according to The Sun. The 80-year-old Scot was also joined by former Red Devils captain Bryan Robson in recording a short video clip for the Maguires.

A source reportedly said: "It was a beautiful day. No expense was spared. There were so many lovely touches – including the video messages from Sir Alex and Bryan Robson.

"Both of them wished the happy couple many years of happiness together. Tom Grennan then got up and sang his song Little Bit of Love. There were so many magical moments."

England team-mates Jack Grealish and Jordan Pickford were also in attendance as Maguire stuck £20,000 behind the bar, with the party taking place on the grounds of a 13th century French chateau into the night. Grealish in particular partied in his boxers as he sang along to Jay Sean.

It comes as a huge personal boost to Maguire after a hugely challenging season for both club and country which saw him receive relentless criticism. Maguire will now hope for a fresh re-start as he joins the rest of the United squad in a new chapter under Erik ten Hag.
