Cristiano Ronaldo's sister Katia Aveiro has liked an Instagram post claiming her brother should have joined Manchester City before he rejected a move to the Etihad to join Manchester United last summer.
United have endured their worst campaign since the 2013/14 season under David Moyes. And the Portuguese star, has often shown his frustrated side on the pitch this season, despite performing well personally.
In his 30 league appearances for the side, Ronaldo has scored 18 goals but Ralf Rangnick's side have just taken 58 points in 37 games. Their hope of playing Champions League football next season descend into tatters after their recent 4-0 defeat against Brighton. It is now five years since the Old Trafford outfit claimed a piece of silverware.
The Red Devils are set to compete in Europa League football next season, a competition Ronaldo is not accustomed to. He has not played in the European tournament since he was a teenager with Sporting Lisbon, before making the move to Old Trafford in 2003.
The 37-year-old arrived from Italian giants Juventus last summer when he completed the £12.85million move on a two-year contract. But amid uncertainty over his future after just a year at Old Trafford with the imminent arrival of Erik ten Hag, his sister who boasts 1.2m followers on Instagram, believes he should have joined rivals City after liking a post from a popular Portuguese fan account called @cr7.o_lendario.
The Instagram post in Portuguese, translates to: "It's very sad to see Cristiano Ronaldo in this situation with Manchester United. We all thought that being at Juventus was the maximum suffering and now United have been left without Champions [League]. This Manchester United side have been so poor that makes it seem that Juventus weren't so bad, but they were. In my opinion, Cristiano should not have to stay as "proof of love for the club." The biggest proof of love was him returning to Manchester United despite receiving a proposal from Manchester City who are clearly a superior team, coach and by recent history.

"But he opted to choose [United] with his heart and gave everything for the club – like he has with all the clubs e has represented in his career. And for Manchester he had the desire of achieving something given how adored he is by the fans.
"Cristiano has to think about Cristiano now. Manchester United will still last another thousand years. Cristiano, you have four more, five years of your career. Look for a better team now because you deserve it and because you still have a lot of football [trophies] to win."
Despite uncertainty over his immediate future, the 37-year-old has already made his mind up as a source told The Sun: "Ronaldo told the players he’s not going anywhere unless the club say they don’t want him. No one is more disappointed than him about how the season has panned out.
"But he doesn’t want to leave on a low and wants to help get the club back into the Champions League and try and win a trophy next year. However, he has told them if the new boss wants to go in a different direction, then he will have no hard feelings and has no regrets about coming back to Old Trafford."
