Ronaldo saga delays Man Utd’s special launch featuring Cantona and Beckham

The new Manchester United home kit was released on Friday, with the expected hype created by the club with the series of promotional videos.

However, one special advert has been withheld due to uncertainty over Cristiano Ronaldo's future, in a huge blow to United and Adidas. The new shirt is a retro design, and naturally Adidas decided to film some of United's most iconic figures to help advertise the dated look.

According to The Athletic, the likes of Eric Cantona and David Beckham were filmed alongside current legend Cristiano Ronaldo, with the intention of 'old meets new' to go along with the story of their new shirt. But following Ronaldo's current stance with United, the advert has had to be held back.

Although Ronaldo has been included in promotional footage, what was meant to be an iconic advert showcasing the current no.7 next to former wearers of the shirt Cantona and Beckham has been held back for now. The advert was meant to go out along with the clubs other promotional media, but has not been released.

Ronaldo hasn't even been back at United for 12 months, but the 37-year-old has already told the club he wants to leave should a suitable bid come in for him. Ronaldo is adamant that he has to play Champions League football, which is one of the factors causing him to seek a move elsewhere.

Due to United's failure to finish in the top four, Ronaldo's salary was also cut along with the rest of his United team-mates. And after a slow start to the summer transfer window, the star has been left unimpressed by the vision of United.

Chelsea have been rumoured to be preparing a £14million bid for Ronaldo, who could snub United for another Premier League side. Ronaldo still loves United, but at the age of 37, he cannot afford to wait around.

Todd Boehly has been looking to make a statement signing after taking over from Roman Abramovich as co-owner. And after agreeing a deal to sign Raheem Sterling, he's certainly going the right way about it.

Ronaldo is the only player yet to train with Erik ten Hag, and he is not expected to be included in their pre-season tour. It may only be a matter of time before Ronaldo leaves, meaning that the advert may never air.
