The 2022 World Cup is almost upon us – and fans won't have to wait long to find out who's playing who in Qatar.

A total of 32 teams will come together to contest the tournament, which is being held in the Middle East for the very first time.

In another first, the World Cup will also be played in the winter months, owing to Qatar's extreme summer heat.

That won't dampen the enthusiasm of supporters as expectation grows ahead of the biggest sporting event in the world.

When is the Qatar 2022 World Cup draw?

The group stage draw for the Qatar 2022 World Cup will be held on April 1, 2022.

With the tournament set to begin on November 21, it will give teams just over seven months to prepare for their opponents and work out travel arrangements ahead of the competition's start.

The draw for the 2022 World Cup will be held in the Qatari capital of Doha and will coincide with the 72nd FIFA Congress, which is taking place in the city on March 31.

Doha will also host a number of World Cup matches, with four stadiums located in the region. The World Cup Final is scheduled to take place in Lusail, which is just north of the city centre.

A total of 32 teams will be involved in the draw for the 2022 World Cup.

Unusually however, at the time of the draw only 30 of those teams will be confirmed, with the remaining two – winners of the intercontinental play-offs, confirmed later.

This situation is due to scheduling difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Qatar are set to make their first appearance at a World Cup, having qualified automatically as hosts, and they will be joined by the usual suspects including Germany, Spain, France and Brazil.

The draw will also be available to watch on the likes of BBC and Sky Sports, although scheduling details have not yet been released.

It is not yet known who will present the World Cup draw, but it is sure to include a host of famous faces from the world of football.

To give you a sense of who might host the ceremony, the 2018 World Cup draw featured the likes of Gary Lineker, Diego Maradona, Gordon Banks and Carles Puyol.

When does the Qatar World Cup 2022 start?

Once the draw is made, players, managers and supporters face an anxious wait until the tournament itself begins.

The World Cup 2022 will start on November 18 and conclude on December 18.
