PSG face massive payout as club ‘considers terminating Sergio Ramos contract’

Paris Saint-Germain are refusing to rule out the possibility of terminating Sergio Ramos’ contract, according to reports.

Ramos, 35, joined the French giants on a free transfer from Real Madrid in the summer, but has still not made his debut for his new club.

The Spanish defender is still dealing with a calf injury, which he picked up some three months ago.

And Ramos’ constant injury woes is annoying those at PSG to the point where the club would be willing to rescind his contract if his fitness problems continue, according to French outlet Le Parisien.

The same report says the club now feel signing Ramos was a mistake and are now considering all possibilities.

Terminating his contract wouldn’t be cheap though, with PSG needing to come to an agreement with Ramos beforehand. His contract reportedly earns him a whopping €24million (£20m) over the course of two years.

Ramos was one of many household signings at PSG in the summer transfer window, as the club made it their priority to win their first-ever Champions League trophy.

Like Ramos, Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Georginio Wijnaldum all arrived for free after their contracts expired with their respective clubs, while PSG also beat Chelsea to the signing of wing-back Achraf Hakimi from Inter in a deal worth £60m.

It is hoped that it will not be too long before Ramos returns to training, but it’s not yet clear what exact date that will be.

On the pitch, Mauricio Pochettino’s side came from behind to beat Ligue 1 champions Lille at the Parc des Princes on Friday.

Jonathan David opened the scoring for the visitors, before Brazilian defender Marquinhos equalised 16 minutes from time and then Angel Di Maria won it for PSG in the 89th minute.

The result means Mauricio Pochettino’s side are top of Ligue 1 with 31 points from 12 matches, eight ahead of second placed Nice.
