Player ratings from Man Utd’s defeat to Arsenal as Partey dominates

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's second-half penalty was enough to earn Arsenal three points with a rare victory at Manchester United.

The Gunners captain's spot kick ended his side's 14-year barren run at Old Trafford and propelled Arsenal into the top half of the Premier League table.

Paul Pogba was the man responsible for conceding the penalty as the United midfielder caught Hector Bellerin with a clumsy tackle in the box.

The sloppy challenge was indicative of United's lacklustre performance, in which they struggled to create any clear-cut chances and were dominated in midfield.

The result leaves the Red Devils 15th in the table with two wins, one draw and three losses from their opening fixtures.

Here are the player ratings from Old Trafford…

Manchester United

De Gea 6

Not tested to any extent but had no chance at all with the penalty.

Wan-Bissaka 6

Did not look comfortable and seemed reluctant to offer a forward option.

Lindelof 7

Made one crucial toe-poked interception and timed his tackles well.

Maguire 7

Communication with his goalkeeper was not always the best but pretty solid.

Shaw 6

Like his fellow full-back, did not venture upfield a great deal.

Fred 5

An early booking seemed to affect his game and not overly effective.

McTominay 5

Got through his usual amount of work without ever looking creative.

Pogba 5

Seemed unsure of his role in the system and gave away the penalty.

Occasionally vulnerable but always provided a viable option going forward.

Unfussy and an early booking did not diminish his physical commitment.

One or two mistimed challenges but also made some crucial interventions.

Tierney 7

Always willing to get forward but never neglected his defensive duties.

Partey 9 MOTM

Dominant stuff and ball recovery seems to be one of his specialities.

Quietly effective and relished what became a midfield dogfight at times.

Not quite on his A game and missed a very decent headed chance.

Willian 6

Unusually slack with his passing but never stopped trying to prise an opening.
