New study shows most watched football clubs and matches of 2019/20 season so far

Liverpool has been the team of choice for Premier League TV audiences this season.

An average of 1,662,801 people in Britain tuned in to watch each of Jurgen Klopp’s side’s televised league games in 2019/20, exclusive research by Reach PLC has revealed.

It puts them comfortably ahead of Manchester United, whose games have drawn an average of 1,520,948 viewers.

It’s a predictable top two given that Liverpool and United have the two largest fan bases in the country.

It’s a predictable top six as well, seeing as it’s made up of the clubs routinely called “the big six” – Tottenham (1,286,847 viewers per game), Chelsea (1,143,175), Manchester City (1,136,054) and Arsenal (1,117,644).

All 20 Premier League clubs have larger averages than every EFL club.

Leeds United have the Championship’s largest average at 423,229 viewers per game.

Nottingham Forest are next with an average of 360,098 per game, while West Brom draw audiences of 329,364 per game.

However, given the fact that the smallest Premier League clubs are most likely to be televised playing the biggest, their averages are skewed by having drawn a lot of fans from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.
