Messi has fans purring with sublime long-range assist for Neymars PSG goal

Lionel Messi has left fans purring with his sublime long-range assist for Neymar in Paris Saint-Germain's latest Ligue 1 win.

The French giants beat Brest 1-0 at home on Saturday afternoon, with the Brazilian's strike after half an hour proving to be the only goal of the match. He was expertly picked out by Messi, who lifted an inch-perfect pass over the Brest defence to pick out Neymar's darting run into the penalty area.

Neymar then brought the pass down calmly under pressure before volleying the ball past the goalkeeper and into the far corner of the goal to open the scoring.

Fans were quick to react to Messi's stunning assist on social media, with one tweeting: “We are very lucky to be able to see this duo playing together.” Another supporter added: “Messi does this every matchday, unreal.”

Meanwhile, a third wrote: “Best playmaker in the world and it’s not even close.” One more fan also tweeted: “Insane how easy the pair of them make it look”

The assist was already Messi's seventh of the season across all competitions in just nine appearances, in addition to scoring four goals of his own.

Now into his second season in France, Messi is well on the way to surpassing his record from the previous campaign, which saw him score 11 times and add 15 assists across 34 appearances in all competitions.

Messi had come under criticism from the media in France during his first season with PSG after failing to reach the numbers he previously achieved with Barcelona.

However, he has started the new season in impressive form, although it remains far from perfect for the 35-year-old in Paris. Fans spotted his unhappy reaction just last month after he was substituted off by manager Christophe Galtier.

PSG had been chasing a late winner at home to Monaco after Neymar's penalty had pulled them level, but they were unable to find another goal after Messi had been withdrawn.
