Marcus Rashford’s stance on Man Utd future as Ten Hag makes contract decision

Marcus Rashford wants to be part of Manchester United's future under new boss Erik ten Hag.

And Rashford is expected to sit down with United bosses in June to discuss and new and improved contract at Old Trafford. The news is a huge boost to the fallen giants, who feared Rashford could quit the club this summer after suffering his most difficult season since bursting onto the scene in 2016.

Rashford has scored just five goals in 30 appearances and found himself on the fringes of the starting XI under interim boss Ralf Rangnick, who he has struggled to form a relationship with. The unsettled striker, 24, has also lost his place in the England squad and is facing a battle to be part of Gareth Southgate's World Cup plans this winter.

Reports suggested Rashford could walk out on his hometown club at the end of this season to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere, with Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona keeping tabs on the situation.

But it is understood Rashford is pleased with the appointment of Ten Hag and is keen to work under him to see if the Dutchman can revive his flagging career.

Rashford's current United deal runs until the summer of 2023, with the option to extend it an extra 12 months. But Ten Hag has told United CEO Richard Arnold that with Cristiano Ronaldo, Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani all expected to leave, he wants Rashford to be a big part of his plans.

Now club bosses will look to sit down with him at the end of the season in the hope of securing his long-term future. Southgate, meanwhile, is refusing to give up on Rashford, despite not picking him in his squad since last summer's Euros. The Three Lions boss will travel up to Manchester in June to meet Rashford in private in an attempt to get inside his head and find out what is going on with the troubled ace.
