Lyon centre-half Marcelo admits talks were held with Liverpool in January as the Reds frantically tried to sign a defender.
Jurgen Klopp saw his centre-half options depleted with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all sidelined.
A host of defenders were linked with moves to Anfield as they faced a race against time to bring in reinforcements.
Ben Davies ended up arriving from Preston before Ozan Kabak followed him on loan from Schalke.
Prior to that though Marcelo's agent spoke to Liverpool about a switch as his contract continued to wind down in France.
The 33-year-old will see his deal expire in the summer meaning he would've been available on the cheap.
But the Brazilian's desire is to remain at the Groupama Stadium and with the Ligue 1 title with Lyon.
“I hope we will find a solution soon!” he told Canal+ when quizzed on his future.
“I feel good here; I feel that I can give more to Lyon. Over time, I hope that we will find a good solution.
“Liverpool? My agent spoke with them, but I feel good here. My dream is to win the championship with Lyon.”
Kabak has already begun establishing himself in the Liverpool defence, playing alongside captain Jordan Henderson.
He and goalkeeper Alisson were involved in a mix-up which gifted Jamie Vardy a goal in a 3-1 defeat at Leicester.
But he helped the Reds keeps a clean sheet in their Champions League win over RB Leipzig which saw him praised by his manager.
“After such a long time with Schalke, he was new to that and I think his attitude was good. Very happy with his performance,” said Klopp.
