As things stand, it’s Chelsea who are frontrunners in the race to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. Thomas Tuchel is eager to land the Norway international, with Roman Abramovich in agreement. But Manchester United held talks about signing the player earlier in the summer – meaning a move to Old Trafford can’t be entirely ruled out.
It’s easy to see why clubs want to sign Haaland.
He’s 21, scored 40 goals across all competitions last term and is one of the deadliest players on the planet.
What’s more, he has the potential to get even better. Scary stuff.
As mentioned above, it’s Chelsea who are pressing hardest to secure the signing of the Norway international. Tuchel, Abramovich and other board members all think the Dortmund star can help them dominate for years to come.
The Blues have already laid the groundwork when it comes to a potential deal by making space in their squad. Olivier Giroud has been sold, while Tammy Abraham may follow him out of the door.

Yet United can’t be entirely ruled out, either.
The Sun said in June that the Red Devils had actually held talks with Haaland before the European Championships got under way.
However, they were left disappointed by what they heard.
United were informed that Haaland’s preference would be to join Real Madrid or Barcelona instead at present, dealing a blow to Chelsea in the process as well.
And they’re now likely to rival clubs for the signing of the 21-year-old next summer instead, when Edinson Cavani will likely have departed.

United had made Haaland their top target as recently as March, amid fears the Uruguay international would leave for Boca Juniors.
But Cavani deciding to stay saw them switch focus, with the Red Devils opting to spend big on Jadon Sancho instead.
Sancho arrived from Dortmund for a fee of £73million and the Bundesliga giants are unwilling to lose Haaland in the same summer as well given his importance to the side.
Chelsea, therefore, may be wasting their time.
They do have alternatives in mind, though, with Romelu Lukaku continuing to be linked with a blockbuster move to Stamford Bridge.

Express Sport understands, however, that Lukaku has no interest in returning to the Premier League and is happy to stay at Inter Milan and help them retain their title.
And what Chelsea then opt to do is something only time will tell.
Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl recently provided an update on Haaland’s situation, insisting the striker would stay put.
“Nobody should underestimate us,” he said.
“It was the same with Jadon Sancho last year until the end of the transfer window. He finally stayed.
“We have insisted a thousand times: we are not going to give Haaland away. We’re not going to sell him this summer, but we see that it doesn’t change anything no matter what we say anyway.”
Haaland himself was recently asked about his future.
And the youngster played down links to Chelsea, insisting the £150m fee being mooted was too much money.
“I don’t really have much to say about this,” Haaland said. “I have three years left on my contract and I’m enjoying my time here (at Dortmund).
“Before yesterday, I didn’t speak to my agent in one month – I think you have the answer there.
“I don’t really care too much about that. It’s a lot of money – I hope it’s just rumours to be honest because that’s a lot of money for a person!”
