Manchester United’s transfer activity is “disturbing”, because the club has been unable to land their top targets and are having to settle for second-choice options. That’s the opinion of former United goalkeeper Tim Howard.
United have had mixed fortunes in the summer transfer window.
Having secured the arrival of Donny van de Beek earlier in the window, they have now announced the signing of Alex Telles and Amad Traore, with the latter set to join in January.
They also confirmed a deal to sign Edinson Cavani later in the evening, with the veteran striker signing for free after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.
But United’s window will ultimately be remembered by many fans for their inability to sign top target Jadon Sancho.

The Borussia Dortmund winger has been United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dream signing througout the window, but the club failed to meet his asking price.
Dortmund have demanded £108million throughout the window, and United chief Ed Woodward reportedly believed the Bundesliga club would lower their valuation in the final days of the window.
That never happened, however, and United were unable to sign Ousmane Dembele, who was believed to be their top alternative target.
A move for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr is still possible, with the Premier League – EFL transfer window open until October 16th.

But Howard warned on Sky Sports that he finds it worrying that United are struggling to sign their top targets.
He also expressed that the arrival of Cavani, who has agreed a one-year £220,000-per-week deal at Old Trafford, will do little to solve their problems.
Howard said: “The transfer window is never easy.
“They don’t seem like they’re panic buying, they just seem like they are second, third and fourth option buys.

“All of the Man United fans would’ve been upset this morning after yesterday’s thrashing by Tottenham and then I don’t think they’ll be overly joyed by Edinson Cavani coming in to cure all their woes.
“The fact that Manchester United isn’t able to get their first or second targets is a little bit disturbing.”
As well as the arrival of Cavani, United are said to be working on a deal for teenage winger Facundo Pellistri, who is currently at Penarol.
The 19-year-old is viewed as a long-term successor to United’s current back-up wide options Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.
