Man Utd ‘turn to Eriksen’ to boost midfield but Arsenal also want transfer

Manchester United could “turn to” Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen to solve their problems in the starting XI – but they may have to battle Arsenal for his signature.

The Red Devils have been struggling to find their best formation as the consider how to play Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek.

Someone who has benefitted from this, though, is Fred as the Brazilian has regularly sat in a midfield pairing in front of the defence.

But Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport [via Football Italia] have given the Premier League giants a proposition which could see him leave.

Eriksen, who arrived at the San Siro in January following a £17.5m move from Tottenham, has struggled to make an impact in Italy.

And manager Antonio Conte could propose a swap deal to the Old Trafford side for Fred as he looks to bolster the squad.

United were one of the clubs interested in the Dane ahead of his Inter move – but they could also be joined by Spurs rivals Arsenal.

The Gunners could also make a swap deal for one of their former opponents, with Granit Xhaka forming part of the swap deal.

Despite being under contract until 2024, Eriksen has only made four starts for the Italian side this season.

And it saw the 28-year-old drop a big hint about his future earlier this month, saying: “This isn’t what I dreamed of. All players want to play as much as possible, but the coach decides who gets to go on the pitch.

“It is a strange situation, as the fans want to see me playing more and so would I, but the coach has different ideas and as a player I have to respect that.

“I am concentrating on my football, then when the transfer window opens we will see if something will happen or not.”

Eriksen would be competing with Fernandes at Old Trafford, who revealed what he told his team-mates ahead of scoring the winner against West Brom.
