Manchester United forward Anthony Martial must mature to become a more consistent player for the Red Devils, says ESPN FC pundit Alejandro Moreno. Martial is United’s second top scorer in all competitions this season having found the back of the net on 15 occasions. The Frenchman has scored in his last three outings against Chelsea, Club Brugge and Sunday’s 3-0 win over Watford at Old Trafford.
Moreno admits Martial is capable of producing some “magic” in front of goal that encourages manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to pick him as the central striker.
But Moreno says a lack of maturity means Martial is too inconsistent which causes problems for United, who are without first-choice striker Marcus Rashford due to injury and were forced to loan in Odion Ighalo last month.
“What you hope is that eventually he grows up, eventually he matures, that’s what you hope,” Moreno said.
“The problem is you end up waiting for that to happen and you think he’s there because he gives you a couple of games which ‘We’re seeing it, here is the consistency, we’re going to see it next week’.

“And then that disappearance act happens and that’s the tough part because if you hadn’t seen anything good from him it’s easy to say ‘No, come on, get off the field, come and sit next to me’.
“But because there’s potential for something magic to happen then that’s when you go chasing.
“When you go chasing, and Manchester United are in a situation where they’re chasing, that’s when it’s tough for the coach and it’s tough for the players as well around him because they don’t really know what to expect from him.”
Solskjaer admits Martial is still learning to play as a central striker but has praised his recent run in front of goal.

“Anthony is still learning. He’s played in a wide role for many, many years, but he’s getting more and more used to playing as a No 9 now,” Solskjaer told talkSPORT.
“He’s been training really well and doing extra work. He’s playing every game and becoming fitter and fitter.
“As a result he’s becoming more and more confident scoring different types of goals.

“This week he scored three different goals, one as a centre forward/No 9 [against Chelsea] with a header.
“The one in Brugge was all about hard work and being an opportunist after picking up on a mistake. But he did all the work himself.
“And today that is the Anthony we have always known, the more who has more skill than most of the players around.”
