Manchester United star Jadon Sancho has been told that his performances will be frustrating three of his team-mates as the England man has come in for criticism for his recent poor form. The former Borussia Dortmund winger moved to Old Trafford over a year ago but has failed to impress and could yet find his place in the team in doubt.
Erik ten Hag opted to play Sancho on the left during the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday, with Marcus Rashford up front and Antony on the right. The Dutchman had few options going forward with Anthony Martial injured and Cristiano Ronaldo dropped from the squad due to disciplinary reasons.
The 2-1 victory away to Everton was the most recent game where Ten Hag had all of his attacking options available, as he left Sancho and Ronaldo on the bench with Martial up front, Rashford wide on the left and Antony on the opposite flank.
Sancho has been warned by former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor that his performances will be frustrating Ronaldo, Luke Shaw and Anthony Elanga, and he has been told to “take responsibility” in the final third.
“I just want to speak about Sancho because when I watch Man United, I look at Antony, I look at Rashford, I look at [Bruno] Fernandes, and they look like they want to take a player on and want to do something and take responsibility in the attacking third,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.
“Sancho, he gets the ball and passes it backwards. If I was Luke Shaw, I’d say, ‘Stop passing it back to me. I’m giving you the ball so take someone on.’ At Dortmund, he was doing it every week. His confidence is that low, does he feel like he doesn’t have the speed or the trickery to get past someone?

“He’s being brought off after 52 minutes for Fred. Fred was unlucky not to start because he did very well last game but it just shows that they’ve had to play Fernandes up front for the last 35 minutes. Rashford went to the left and Antony stayed on the right because Sancho can’t perform.
“How many times do you have to play him? If you’re Ronaldo you’re probably thinking ‘How many chances is this guy going to get?’ Elanga, how many times is Sancho going to get the chance to play for Manchester United because he’s not performing and he’s a million miles away from a chance to play at the World Cup.”
Sancho was left out of Gareth Southgate’s previous squad to face Germany and Italy in the Nations League, as the England boss claimed there was “big competition for places” in the wide areas with Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Bukayo Saka and Jarrod Bowen picked ahead of the United man.
