Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes sends message after Watford win – as unusual stat emerges

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has sent a message to the club’s Premier League top four rivals after the club’s 3-0 win over Watford. The Portugal international was on target in the victory, with Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood also finding the net.

On Saturday, Fernandes became the first player in United’s entire history whose maiden goal for the club came via the penalty spot.

But that won’t bother the Portugal international, who produced his best performance to date against Watford at Old Trafford.

Fernandes won and scored the club’s penalty, with goals from Martial and Greenwood making it a positive afternoon for the Red Devils.

United entered the game needing to pick up the points to keep pressure on fourth-placed Chelsea, who battled their way to a 2-1 victory over Tottenham on Saturday.

And, speaking after the game, Fernandes admitted that he was delighted with the result.

“This is what I want to do and what I need to do,” the 25-year-old said.

“Everyone knows we want to get into the Champions League places. I am here to help the team conquer this place and keep winning games.”

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also hailed Fernandes, who was the star of the show.

“A very good win, two good wins and two clean sheets, some goals to celebrate, now we want to kick on,” the Norweigan said.

“I thought first half we started by gifting them some good opportunities and gradually we created more and more chances.

“Bruno Fernandes is quicker than he looks. Very excited by having him in.

“He has come in, given everyone a boost and wants to conduct a game. There are big games coming up now.

“The thing that matters in football is scoring goals and that is what Mason Greenwood does.”

And United star Luke Shaw also spoke out after the showdown.

The England international was strong at the back, shining in his traditional left-back role after playing at centre-back against Chelsea.

And Shaw said: “We got what we needed and that was three points. Let’s keep pushing.

“The most important thing is we closed the gap to Chelsea.

“This club is known for playing in the big competitions. We all miss the Champions League nights so much, that is what we want next season.

“We need to fight and earn it.”

United are next in action against Club Brugge on Thursday (8pm). The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in Belgium last week.
