Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Bruno Fernandes is a mix between former Manchester United midfielders Paul Scholes and Juan Sebastian Veron. Fernandes scored his first goal for his new employers on Sunday in the side’s 3-0 win over Watford at Old Trafford.
After being taken down by Ben Foster in the penalty area in the 42nd minute, Fernandes took responsibility from 12 yards and slotted home.
The Portuguese otherwise produced one of the best midfield performances for United this season – advancing quickly with the ball, picking forward passes and putting himself in space between the Watford banks of four.
Such was the level of the Fernandes’ performance that Solskjaer compared him to two of the club’s most talented central midfielders of yesteryear.
The United boss said in his post-match press conference: “He has come in and given everyone a big boost, not just the team, but the supporters too.
