Roy Keane's praise for England midfielder Jude Bellingham will once again have Manchester United fans ruing the one who got away.

Bellingham, 18, is already an integral member of Gareth Southgate's Three Lions squad and played in the 10-0 rout against San Marino.

He also featured in three games on England's run to the final of Euro 2020, including the 4-0 quarter-final win over Ukraine.

The former Birmingham City star is a regular in Borussia Dortmund's midfield and regularly bosses games in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League despite his tender age.

Young England talents are often hyped up before they get a chance to make a mark in the game, but Bellingham is seen as the real deal by a host of top judges, including former United captain Keane.

The Irishman told ITV: "He’s got a great chance, the kid, we love everything about him.

"What he does on the pitch, the way he speaks off it, he’s playing week in, week out for a top club [Borussia Dortmund]. The potential in this kid is scary."

He continued: "I saw him recently playing in a Champions League game and he was producing passes… I didn’t think he had that in his locker quite yet.

"The potential for this boy, he’s a good size, he’s like a boxer, he’s a strong powerful boy. Gareth [Southgate] must be rubbing his hands."

Those comments will be music to the ears of Bellingham and Dortmund, but not United fans.

The Red Devils were interested in signing the teenager when it became apparent he was going to leave Birmingham.

They brought out the big guns in an attempt to sign him, with Sir Alex Ferguson meeting the star when he came for a tour of the club.

Fergie's presence wasn't enough to convince Bellingham to move to Old Trafford, and he eventually ended up at Dortmund instead.

The Bundesliga club paid just over £20million for his services, a fee that is looking better and better value with every passing game.

According to transfermarkt, Bellingham now as a market value treble Dortmund's initial investment, although any potential suitor would likely have to pay a lot more to prise him away from Signal Iduna Park.
