Man Utd put price-tag on De Gea with Dean Henderson the future at Old Trafford

Manchester United have reportedly slapped a £50million price tag on David de Gea amid doubts over his future at the club.

De Gea, 31, has suffered a fall from grace at Old Trafford in recent seasons and is no longer considered one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

The Spaniard is also facing competition in between the sticks from Dean Henderson, who is keen to replace him as United’s No.1 next season after playing second fiddle since returning from his loan spell at Sheffield United.

Henderson is set for an extended run in the team after De Gea returned home to Spain following the birth of his first child, which is likely to keep him out of action for the rest of the month.

United’s academy graduate will therefore have a chance to stake his claim for the No.1 spot, although The Sun claim he is already expecting to take over next season amid doubts over De Gea’s future.

It is believed the latter could be offloaded when the summer transfer window opens, with United looking to cut down on their £600,000-a-week goalkeeper wage bill.

And he contributes to over half of that with his club-high £375,000-a-week wages, meaning his departure would make the most sense this summer.

Given there are high hopes for Henderson at Old Trafford following his impressive loan at Sheffield United last season, De Gea is more likely to wave goodbye at the end of the season.

But with Thibaut Courtois currently in between the sticks at the Bernabeu, it is unclear whether Madrid would be willing to come back in for him this summer.
