Bournemouth took the lead on the stroke of half-time with Adam Smith crossing for King.

Against his former club, he flicked the ball over Aaron Wan-Bissaka and volleyed beyond David De Gea.

The home side had chances to double their advantage after the break, with Callum Wilson forcing De Gea into a fine save on 75 minutes.

Bournemouth’s last visit to Old Trafford was a different story, though.

Paul Pogba scored twice as United ran out 4-1 winners in December 2018.

Pogba converted a Marcus Rashford cross five minutes in before powering a header past Asmir Begovic on 33 minutes.

Rashford extended United’s lead at the back post before Nathan Ake pulled a goal back in first-half stoppage time.

Substitute Romelu Lukaku added the fourth with 18 minutes to play before Pogba was denied his hat-trick by a fine Begovic save.

United played the closed stages with 10 men after Eric Bailly was shown a straight red card for a foul on Ryan Fraser.
