Manchester United have identified Kieran Trippier as a summer transfer target. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bolster his squad ahead of the 2021/22 season and believes the England right-back could offer something different.
United are about to embark on an important summer transfer window having fallen short of their goals last season.
Solskjaer’s side finished 12 points behind rivals Manchester City in the Premier League and finished the campaign trophyless after being shocked on penalties by Villarreal in the Europa League final.
While the focus for many of their players will now turn to the European Championships, United’s recruitment department are working on new arrivals ahead of the window opening on June 9.
A centre-back to partner Harry Maguire is understood to be the club’s top priority, but it is not the only area of the pitch they are considering.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka was a regular presence at right-back last season, making 54 appearances for Solskjaer’s side across all competitions.

The £50million arrival from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2019 had a largely solid campaign, but it seems that the club would like to increase the competition for his place in the side.
According to The Athletic, United are exploring the possibility of bringing Trippier back to the Premier League from Atletico Madrid this summer.
Trippier joined Atletico from Tottenham for £20m in July 2019 and still has two more years left on his contract with the Spanish club.
However, he hails from Manchester and comes from a family of United supporters and the club believes they can persuade him to move back to England.
According to the report, Trippier is an attractive proposition because he would play higher up the pitch than Wan-Bissaka and he would offer a threat on the inside as well as the outside in attack.
Those qualities would make him a better bet against deep-set resolute defences – a tactical set-up which contributed to their record of nine wins in 19 home Premier League matches last season.

United are reportedly aware of the fact that teams are happy to leave Wan-Bissaka open and force Solskjaer’s side to give him the ball.
The 23-year-old former Palace man is a better one-on-one defender and in the air, but United have watched Trippier in La Liga and feel he can offer a good alternative in the position.
United hope Trippier’s arrival would drive Wan-Bissaka on, much like Luke Shaw when Alex Telles arrived last summer to provide competition at left-back.
The 30-year-old also has a good delivery, can play in United’s problem position of right-midfield and would offer an option with his long-range shooting.
It remains to be seen whether United secure a deal to land Trippier but clearly the club are enthused by the idea of adding him to Solskjaer’s squad.
