Manchester United’s chances of signing Erling Haaland in the summer could be denied by the striker opting to stay put at Borussia Dortmund. Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola has never been shy of speaking publicly about his client’s future, and his latest comments could come as a blow to United and other interested parties.
Haaland is one of the most in-demand players in world football due to his incredible goal scoring record with Dortmund.
The 21-year-old has netted a staggering 76 goals in 75 games for the German club since arriving from RB Salzburg for a fee of around £17million (€20m) in January 2020.
He is under contract with Dortmund until July 2024, but he has been widely touted for a move in the summer of 2022 due to a clause in his contract.
Haaland will be allowed to leave at the end of the 2021/22 season if a club stumps up between £64m (€75m) and £85m (€100m), according to ESPN.
That has inevitably attracted the attention of all of Europe’s heavyweight clubs, with United among those eyeing the Norwegian international.

However, Raiola has stressed that Haaland’s departure from Dortmund in the summer is far from a certainty, with another year in Germany before a move to Barcelona a distinct possibility.
“Could Haaland wait for Barcelona? He can wait for anybody,” Raiola told Spanish outlet NOS. “We don’t have a pre-agreement with any club.
“We’ll look for the best option for him and I can’t rule out another year at Dortmund. Theoretically, that’s still possible.”

Barca are considered to be out of the running to sign Haaland in the summer due to their current financial situation.
The Catalan club made a loss of £404m (€481m) in the last financial year and have picked up debts and future liabilities totalling £1.14bn (€1.35bn).
Barcelona are currently seventh in La Liga, 16 points adrift of leaders Real Madrid, but Raiola has played down the severity of their situation.
“Barcelona will always be one of the world’s biggest clubs, even despite their current situation,” he said.
“In a year or two they’ll be back. They have the power to find great economic agreements. They’ll only need a year or two to get back.”
Haaland has scored 19 goals in just 16 games for Dortmund so far this season and is sure to attract huge attention in the summer.
As well as Manchester United, who tried to sign him from Salzburg back in 2020, Manchester City are understood to be interested in Haaland.
City failed to land Harry Kane in the summer and are playing without a conventional centre-forward this season.
Real Madrid are prioritising a move for Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe, but PSG, Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with Haaland.
