Harry Maguire could miss the Premier League meeting between Manchester United and Newcastle.

The England defender has come under intense pressure in recent weeks for incidents both on and off the field – but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that he has what it takes to bounce back.

However, the Norwegian also revealed that Maguire picked up a knock before he was sent off against Denmark on Wednesday, which could force him out of their return to domestic action.

United are therefore set to name a changed side following their defeat at home to Tottenham, with Anthony Martial suspended having seen red during that encounter.

David de Gea is set to retain his place despite continued pressure from Dean Henderson, and he could be protected by a new-look duo of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.

Bailly confirmed that he had no lasting injury after going off during the draw between Ivory Coast and Belgium, and he could play next to Aaron Wan-Bissaka and debutant Alex Telles.

Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba might then play in holding midfield, with Bruno Fernandes further forward.

That leaves a trio of Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Donny Van de Beek with Edinson Cavani not ready.

“In football, you're in the highlights all the time and when Harry is part of a team that beats Belgium, the number one ranked team in the world, it's a normal day,” said Solskjaer of his captain.

“But you get the headlines when you get a sending off, that's football, there are ups and downs, and have to deal with it.

“Harry has got great resilience, he knows he'll bounce back, he wants to play and work his way out of the last couple of games.

“He's been criticised, he picked up a knock just before he came off, and we'll have a look at him today.”

Before adding of their upcoming test: “We need a response as we always do after we lose a game you want to win the next one we want to try and dominate the game, the result is very important.

“We want to see positive body language and mindset, you don’t get anywhere being negative, so we’re going to go out there go for the win and see players who wanna work for the points.”
