Man Utd confirm Champions League squad with noticeable first team omissions

Manchester United have confirmed their 25-man squad for the Champions League – but there are some noticeable omissions.

The usual suspects have of course all been picked with Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes among the 25 players selected.

But the Red Devils have left out Sergio Romero, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo.

According to this final list, this means that the trio will not play any part in the Red Devils' Champions League campaign this season.

Meanwhile, new signing from Penarol Facundo Pellistri has been included in the 25-man squad, alongside Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles.

United's £35million signing from Ajax, Donny van de Beek, has also made the cut.

Amad Diallo is a noticeable omission following his £35million move to United in this summer's transfer window, but he is not joining the club until January.

Romero's omission is a big one following his failed attempt to leave United.

Lee Grant has been preferred over the Argentine shot-stopper along with Dean Henderson, who returned to United in the summer from Sheffield United.

Manchester United were drawn in Group H of the Champions League, and face a difficult task against Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir.

On the draw, Solsksjaer said: "Yes, semi-finalists in Leipzig and finalists in PSG.

"Of course, you know you're going to play against good teams. It just shows the challenge we're facing and how far we've come.

"Istanbul almost got to the quarter-finals in the Europa League as well. Now they've signed Rafael [da Silva] and it will be a nice little reunion with him"
