Man Utd boss Solskjaer has ‘agreement’ with Southgate over Mason Greenwood

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood could miss England's next World Cup qualifiers – because of a reported agreement between Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Gareth Southgate.

Many fans must been wondering what Greenwood has to do to get back in the England squad.

He scored in all three of United's Premier League games so far this season, but was left out of Southgate's plans for games against Hungary, Andorra and Poland over the past eight days.

The Three Lions sit four points clear of Group I with four games remaining, having won 4-0 in both their first two matches last week before conceding a last-gasp equaliser against Poland.

England's face Andorra and Hungary again next month as they target a place in the Qatar 2022 World Cup finals.

But Greenwood could again be missing from the squad after talks between Solskjaer and Southgate last month, according to the Daily Mail.

The publication reports that Southgate met Solskjaer at United's training ground – three days before the England manager omitted Greenwood from his squad for the latest round of qualifiers.

The two managers have agreed to tread carefully with his international career, with the 19-year-old seen as the future of both United's attack and potentially England's.

This led to Leeds striker Patrick Bamford being called up last month instead of Greenwood.

After leaving the United teenager out when he announced his squad, Southgate said of Greenwood: "He is a player we really like and he's got every possibility to be a top England player.

"We're all conscious we make that progression at the right time. We decided it's best he stays with his club. We're all aligned with that — Mason, the club and his family."

The Red Devils striker's only cap to date was against Iceland a year ago, before he and Phil Foden were sent home for sneaking two women back to the team hotel.
