- United have also been linked with Benjamin Pavard and Thomas Meunier
Manchester United have suffered a blow in their attempts to sign Sergino Dest as the Barcelona defender has reportedly agreed a season-long loan deal with AC Milan.
Erik ten Hag is keen to sign a new right-back before the transfer window shuts and previously managed Dest at Ajax.
United have also been linked with moves for Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard and Borussia Dortmund’s Thomas Meunier.
Sergino Dest’s loan move to AC Milan is reportedly ‘100 percent done’ ahead of his medical
According to Fabrizio Romano, Dest will not be heading to Old Trafford as his loan move to Milan is ‘100 percent done’.
The journalist adds that Dest is flying to Italy this morning for his medical, while the Serie A side will have the option to buy the 21-year-old for £17.3million next summer.
Dest has made 72 appearances for Barcelona since moving to the Nou Camp from Ajax in 2020, but he has been left out of the matchday squad by Xavi for the first three LaLiga games of this season.
It comes as a blow for Erik ten Hag, who was keen to sign the full-back who he coached at Ajax
A 17-cap USA international, he will be keen to play regular football ahead of the World Cup in November.
It concludes a busy window for reigning Serie A champions Milan, who have also signed players such as Charles De Ketelaere, Divock Origi and Alessandro Florenzi.
For United, it means that they will have to make do with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka until at least January.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been linked with a Manchester United exit after being jettisoned
Wan-Bissaka has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after being jettisoned by Ten Hag, but the Dutch boss has indicated that the 24-year-old will stay at the club beyond today’s deadline.
‘Aaron showed in the past that he is a constant factor at United,’ Ten Hag said. ‘I have trust in him. I haven’t seen him that much because over a longer period he was injured in pre-season. I didn’t have the chance to see him.
‘What I heard and what I noticed from the past, he is a good option. He’s been training and needs to compete for the position.’
