‘I get to never see that fraud wear a red shirt again’: Manchester United fans bid ‘good riddance’ to Paul Pogba after Frenchman is effectively ruled out for the rest of this season and heads towards sorry Old Trafford exit
- Paul Pogba is expected to be out for the rest of this season with a calf injury
- He is likely to have played his last Manchester United game as his contract is up
- But the club’s supporters are not too disheartened by the news on social media
- One fan described the French midfielder as the ‘most overhyped footballer ever’
It is safe to say that Manchester United fans are not too disappointed by the news that Paul Pogba is unlikely to play for the club again.
The midfielder was forced off with a calf problem in the early stages of United’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night and Ralf Rangnick has now confirmed the full extent of the injury.
‘With Paul, it seems, after the scan we did yesterday or the day before yesterday, it’s very unlikely that he will play until the end of the season again,’ the United boss said in his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s trip to Arsenal on Saturday.

Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that the midfielder’s recovery will take a minimum of four weeks
‘The doctor told me that it will take four weeks, minimum, for him to recover and, since the last game is at the end of May, I don’t think it’s very likely that he will be able to play again.’
Pogba’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season and he is widely expected to leave for free.
But there are no tears being shed by supporters at the thought of having seen the 29-year-old play his last match for the club.
‘Goodbye Paul Pogba, I get to never see that fraud where a red shirt again,’ one fan tweeted.
‘Goodbye Paul Pogba, and good riddance,’ another added.
‘Cheerio @paulpogba you won’t be missed,’ a third said.
Having left United as a teenager in 2012, Pogba re-signed for the club for a record £89.3 million in the summer of 2016.
However, he has struggled to live up to that transfer fee and has often found himself the subject of criticism from fans and pundits alike.
As United have struggled to deliver under multiple managers, Pogba has become synonymous with the club’s problems.
‘Finally the PL bids goodbye to Paul Pogba,’ one fan said. ‘3 managers, multiple systems and various positions yet no one could get the best out of him. The most controversial and overhyped footballer ever.’
Some supporters saw the irony that Pogba’s final act in a United shirt was a limp showing against their north west rivals on Tuesday.
Pogba has been the target of criticism from fans and pundits alike over the last six years
‘Walking out of a match at Anfield that was barely 9 minutes old is a fitting epitaph for Paul Pogba’s Manchester United career. Cheerio,’ one said.
‘6 years of unfulfilled potential, brought to an end by being booed off at Old Trafford, then bailing after 8 mins at Anfield to avoid a drubbing. Goodbye Paul Pogba, the greatest myth the Premier League has ever seen,’ another added.
With PSG, Juventus and Real Madrid all reportedly interesting in signing Pogba on a free transfer this summer, the French international will for now watch on from the sidelines as United try to finish in the top four.
‘A million quid for doing sod all for the next 4 weeks,’ one fan tweeted. ‘Nice work if you can get it.’
