Man City fans in meltdown as Aymeric Laporte injured during Real Madrid clash

Aymeric Laporte has limped out of Manchester City ’s crunch Champions League clash with Real Madrid tonight – and their supporters are absolutely gutted.

Pep Guardiola ’s side are taking on Madrid at the Bernabeu in the first leg of their last-16 showdown, with the score currently locked at 0-0.

The Premier League champions have created ted some decent openings in the first half, only for Gabriel Jesus and Bernardo Silva to fluff their lines in front of goal.

But just as things looked promising for City, star defender Laporte was forced off in the 33rd minute of the game with yet another injury.

The Frenchman only recently returned from a five-month spell on the sidelines, having been forced to undergo surgery on a knee injury he picked up in their 4-0 win over Brighton at the end of August.

And now the City faithful are fearing the worst on Twitter after seeing Laporte hobble off with tears in his eyes out in Spain tonight.

One wrote: “Laporte's going off ffs”.

“This is not good. Only positive is that he's walking. #Laporte #mcfc” posted another.

This worried fan said: “F*** sake. Not Laporte again. Expressionless face #mcfc #mancity #RMAMCI”.

“Hope nothing serious with Laporte” commented another.

While one City supporter can’t help but feel pessimistic, saying: “I can't see how we win a tie like this without Laporte”.

Guardiola will be pleased with his side’s performance so far in Madrid, having sprung a number of surprises in his starting lineup.

Raheem Sterling , David Silva and Sergio Aguero were all named on the bench this evening, but the City manager had an explanation for starting Gabriel Jesus over the latter.

“I decide for [Jesus], like I decide for Sergio,” he told BT Sport .

“I decide this line-up for a few things, I’ll have to change something during the game and that’s all.

“Fernandinho is just as good [as Nicolas Otamendi] at set-pieces, just Fernandinho is not top, top, top condition and physicality.

“He [Raheem Sterling] could have played from the beginning but 90 minutes I do not know, and that’s why I decide.”
