Manchester United star Luke Shaw had a hilarious immediate reaction when he found out iconic defender Roberto Carlos was a fan.
The Englishman has enjoyed an incredible year, having broken back into the Red Devils’ starting XI to make 47 appearances last season.
And it saw him earn a place in the national squad for Euro 2020, appearing in all games except the opening group-stage clash against Croatia.
One of Shaw’s standout performances came in the quarter-finals, grabbing two assists in a 4-0 win against Ukraine at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome.
Instagram quickly erupted with praise for the 26-year-old following a post he shared of the game.
And among the comments was 2002 World Cup-winning full-back Carlos, who replied with several clapping emoji's in appreciation.
The news even made it to the England camp, with videos emerging of them calling the United defender “Shawberto Carlos”.
And the 26-year-old has now revealed what his immediate reaction to finding out about the Brazilian’s admiration.
Speaking on the club’s official Twitter channel, the United star said: “It was so weird.
Do you think Luke Shaw is the best left-back in the world? Let us know in the comments section.
“It was, I think, after the Ukraine game. To be honest, I didn’t even realise.
“I’d seen that someone had tagged me in a photo with ‘RLC’ and said ‘Ah, he’s commented on Luke’s picture’.
“And I was like ‘who is that’ and it was him and obviously I was like ‘this is mad’.
“Then I sent it straight to my family and of course my friends. We all couldn’t believe it.”
Shaw was then asked if he would send a signed shirt to the former Real Madrid full-back – and he had a brilliant answer.
The United star said: “Obviously, I’m going to send him one if he wants it – but of course I want one back from him hopefully, if he’s ok with it!”
Carlos has also spoken during interviews about his admiration for Shaw, who started during the 1-1 draw against Poland to close the latest international break.
