The race for Liverpool transfer target Karim Adeyemi looks set to intensify in the coming weeks, with recent reports indicating that the teenager’s agent has met with representatives from Paris Saint-Germain.

Adeyemi has been linked with a clutch of European heavyweights after his sizzling start to the season with RB Salzburg.

The 19-year-old has netted 15 goals in just 22 games this term; form that has captured the attention of Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp.

But it’s now emerged that Liverpool may have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the Salzburg star this week.

According to SPORT1, Adeyemi’s agent, Manni Schwabl, met with PSG representatives in Paris on Thursday in an apparent attempt to thrash out a future deal for Adeyemi.

With Kylian Mbappe looking more and more likely to run down his contract and link up with Real Madrid next summer, PSG have seemingly earmarked Adeyemi as a potential replacement for the Frenchman.

And their interest could hamper Liverpool’s hopes of sealing a deal for the striking prodigy.

A report from SPORT last week claimed that Schwabl held a similar meeting with Barcelona’s representatives in Spain, with the La Liga side also keen on snapping up the striker; although their financial issues are likely to limit them in their ability to compete with Liverpool and PSG.

Adeyemi is widely expected to depart Salzburg next summer, but there remains a chance that the Reds could attempt to test that stance in the January transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are set to lose both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for a month, with the pair set to jet off to the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt and Senegal respectively at the start of 2022. Roberto Firmino has also suffered with injuries this year, meaning the Reds could be light in attacking options following the hectic festive period.

But Adeyemi is under contract until the summer of 2024, meaning Salzburg, realistically, should be able to hold out a little bit longer before cashing in on their star striker.

Despite the persistent speculation surrounding his future, Adeyemi played down any talk of a move earlier this month, insisting he was focused on playing for Salzburg for the time being.

“I take it easy. I feel honoured, but nothing more,” he told Sky Sport Austria earlier this month.

“I have my focus here at Salzburg. We play well together. It works perfectly. First of all, I want to progress with Salzburg. Then we’ll look further.”
