Liverpool ‘target Colombian Cristiano Ronaldo’ as Sadio Mane and Mo Salah cover

Liverpool are said to be considering signing the 'Colombian Cristiano Ronaldo' as cover for Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah next month.

The star duo will be leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations in the New Year, which means the Reds are going to be considerably worse off in their title fight with Manchester City and Chelsea.

Therefore, they are reportedly looking for attacking reinforcements that can be brought in come the January transfer window.

And their search to replace the soon-to-be missing Senegal and Egypt internationals has led them to Porto winger Luis Diaz, as per a report by FourFourTwo.

Diaz, 24, has been dubbed as his nation's version of Manchester United legend Ronaldo in Portugal.

And with the form he's been in this season, it's clear to see why.

In 15 Portuguese Primeira Liga games so far this campaign, Diaz has scored 12 goals and registered four assists.

That tally of strikes places him second in the league's top scorer standings.

And he also two Champions League finishes to his name.

Liverpool fans – would Diaz keep a place in the starting XI? Let us know in the comments section.

Diaz's form has carried over from the summer, when he was influential for Columbia in their third-placed Copa America finish.

He was the tournament's joint top goalscorer with Lionel Messi after netting against Brazil and Argentina and bagging a brace versus Peru.

His overhead kick goal against Brazil has since been nominated for the 2021 FIFA Puskas Award.

The performances he put in for his country supposedly attracted the attention of Chelsea and Liverpool's Merseyside rivals Everton earlier this year.

Having continued to impress at club level, he has now the Reds – along with United and Bayern Munich – keeping tabs on him, the latest report claims.

Jurgen Klopp could be without Mane and Salah for up a number of weeks, with AFCON kicking off on January 9 and concluding on February 6.

The German manager recently said they would 'find solutions' without Mane or Salah and is he happy with the players he currently has at his disposal.
