Liverpool have last ‘big six’ clash before World Cup break amid England fears

Liverpool face a tricky 'big six' clash with Tottenham just two weeks before the season breaks for the World Cup.

The two sides are set to clash on November 5, but the fixture could be moved to the following day for Sky Sports' Super Sunday. That weekend is the penultimate set of fixtures before the season takes a short break for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Fortunately, for England, there will be no big six clashes during the final matchday before the month-long break, before it all fires up again on Boxing Day. Chelsea and Arsenal also go head-to-head over the weekend on the 5th.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate had asked the Premier League not to schedule any big six games the weekend before the World Cup.

He said: "We have asked the Premier League to have a think about things, but we also understand that the fixture programme is very complicated. We'd have a preference for none of those big games but to be honest the difference it's going to make is fairly marginal.

"I think it's manageable but the demands on the players are huge, and I think we are all conscious that we can't keep adding to the calendar."

The football season is even more condensed than usual next season with the addition of the World Cup in November and December.

To combat the change, the Premier League will launch up the first weekend in August, while the Community Shield will take place in late July.
