Liverpool fan proposes to girlfriend on talkSPORT – and he knew ‘she’d hate it’

This could be Rotterdam or anywhere, Liverpool or Rome. But why propose from anywhere, when you can do it at home?

That was the bizarre philosophy of one Liverpool supporter, Josh, who took his marriage proposal to the next level by asking his girlfriend to marry him live on national radio.

Rather than phoning in talkSPORT to discuss the Reds' lacklustre start to the new Premier League season, the loved-up Liverpool fan instead opted to tell pundits Jason Cundy and Jamie O'Hara that his sole purpose for dialling was to propose to the love of his life.

"My missus is listening right, and obviously I wanted to propose tonight," mumbled the besotted football fan. "So I just wanted to shout out and say Cici will you marry me?"

Taken aback by their first-ever proposal request, the baffled ex-Tottenham Hotspur stars quickly intervened to make sure the caller wasn't pranking the radio station with O'Hara probing the validity of the question-popping.

"You being real," asked the former England Under-21 international. "Course I am," was the immediate reply from Josh. "100%. I've told her to tune in."

Cundy then halted the caller in his tracks to query, "where is she?" before Josh answered, "Cici's in south London." Both Cundy and O'Hara then convinced him that he needed to perform a "proper proposal" and gave the Reds fan a few minutes to plan what he was going to say whilst the station cut to an ad break.

It was only after Cundy re-introduced the programme, with Cici now on the other line, that Josh admitted his girlfriend was "going to hate" his proposal and also that he also hadn't even bothered to get down on one knee, to which Cundy instructed, "get on one knee now."

O'Hara then handed over to Josh for the proposal. "Alright, Ci. You know I love you. I know I drive you crazy with my football and that whatever. But I just wanted to bring you on air, I know you're probably going to be embarrassed about this, but will you marry me?"

"Babe," said Cici followed by a three-second pause. "Of course, I will but why are you doing this on here?" Josh replied "I dunno. I dunno man. But is that a yes or what?"

Cici reaffirmed, "I said yes of course I will." Her reply was met with the popping of champagne in the talkSPORT studio as Cundy and O'Hara cheered Cici becoming Josh's fiancée followed bizarrely by the darts music.

Just another typical day on talkSPORT.
