Liverpool ‘eyeing’ Lazio ace, defender ‘wants Reds move’ and Wijnaldum bombshell

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has more important things on his mind than watching the European Championships this summer.

The German boss is continuing his preparations for the new Premier League season, which will begin in just under two months on August 14.

Klopp already has one signing under his belt in the form of central defender Ibrahima Konate, but there’s plenty more business to be done yet.

Daily Star Sport have taken a look at two more names who could join the French centre-half at Anfield this summer – and one who has teased the reason for swapping Merseyside for Paris on a free transfer.

Liverpool ‘following Lazio star’

Liverpool have a Gini Wijnaldum-shaped hole left to fill in their midfield after the Dutchman joined PSG on Thursday.

The Reds have been linked with all manner of replacements, and now Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is on the radar too.

According to Italian newspaper Il Messaggero via Lalaziosiamonoi, Liverpool have been ‘following him with interest for some time’.

A move for the 26-year-old wouldn’t come cheap, though; his contract at the Stadio Olimpico doesn’t run out until 2024.

Defender ‘wants Anfield move’

Klopp might not be in the market for another centre-half, but that hasn’t stopped RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol setting his sights on a move to Anfield.

The 19-year-old was asked by Croatian outlet 24sata who is favourite club from abroad is and where he would most like to play in his career.

He replied: “In Liverpool. From a young age, I watched Liverpool games with my dad and how I grew up just them.

“When I took football more seriously, I started following them, and I definitely want the Premiership and Liverpool.”

Wijnaldum bombshell

There was no keeping Wijnaldum's move to PSG a secret – even if it looked as though he was destined to join Barcelona.

But the reasons behind his decision to leave Anfield remain unclear, although perhaps not for much longer.

In an interview with Voetbal International via Sport Witness, he said: “There are many supporters who ask me why I didn't just accept the offer from Liverpool to extend my contract.

“But of course, it's not just that. It's about much more than that. There are things happening behind the scenes that you cannot influence as a player.

“I will explain that after the tournament because now only Orange [Netherlands] counts.”
