Kylian Mbappe ‘refuses to be in France team photos’ over image rights battle

Kylian Mbappe has allegedly refused to participate in the upcoming team photoshoot for the France national team.

The Paris Saint-Germain attacker, 23, has opted out of the planned photo session on Tuesday with his national side, reports RMC.

It is thought that the reason is over France Football Federation’s alleged refusal to modify the agreement of his image rights.

His decision comes after reports suggested that he intended to boycott certain sponsors of Les Bleus – an issue that has gone as far back as March.

French football expert Robin Bairner tweeted after the news broke on Monday: “Worth pointing out that the money Mbappe earns from image rights relating to the national team all goes to charity.”

And Get France Football News quote-tweeted this with: “As pointed out by @RBairner – this is not a “greedy” Kylian Mbappé story – all of the money he has earned from France sponsorships has so far been donated to charity. Mbappé’s frustration is representing betting companies and fast food brands which he feels uncomfortable doing.”

It is believed that Mbappe and his entourage feel that certain players’ images are used more often than others. RMC also state in their report that the photo shoot for tomorrow was due to involve some of the national team’s main sponsors – the likes of Uber Eats, KFC, and Coca-Cola.

In March, Le Parisien reported that the former Monaco player does not want his image associated with a select number of French national team partners – specifically betting companies or fast food outlets like the aforementioned.

The PSG superstar reportedly does not want to associate himself with products linked to obesity – and he sees online betting as a danger to his younger fans.

Les Bleus’ sponsors are allowed to pick five players to take part in their advertising campaigns – and it appears that Mbappe had been selected once more.

It is unclear that this point whether he will face sanctions for his refusal.
