Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are set to be left disappointed in the chase for Paris Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappé.

The Liverpool boss was keen to bring the French World Cup winning forward to Anfield with rumoured that informal talks had already begun with the player and his father.

However, according to Spanish publication AS (viaSportWitness), the Reds face competition from Real Madrid and have already conceded it will be difficult to dissuade the player from moving to the Bernabeu.

The report claims that Klopp ‘dreams’ of signing Mbappé but are among a number of teams in the hunt.

Madrid’s La Liga rivals Barcelona are also reported to be in the mix for Mbappé’s signature with presidential candidate Victor Font keen to make the 21-year-old his marquee signing should be elected at the Nou Camp.

Real still remain frontrunners though, with the player said to be keen to link up with Zinedine Zidane in the Spanish capital.

Club president Florentino Perez is quoted as saying he expects Los Blancos to complete the deal ‘if no mistakes are made’.

The player recently added Delphine Verheyden, a highly regarded sports lawyer, to his team in a move apparently to help facilitate his departure from Paris.

Making his breakthrough at Monaco, Mbappe helped the team from the principality lift the Ligue Un title in 2017 as well as reach the Champions League semi final.

That summer, he made the move to PSG, initially on loan to comply with FFP regulations, before a £132 million deal was confirmed the following summer.

Mbappe also lifted the World Cup with France in 2018 with France, scoring four times, including in the 4-2 victory over Croatia in the final.
