Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp couldn't hide his delight when his discovering that Everton would be without Allan and Dominic Calvert-Lewin from the outset at Anfield this evening.
The former has been an impressive signing for the Toffees, while the latter has been scoring for fun once again this term.
Carlo Ancelotti admitted both men would be fit for this evening's Merseyside derby – before benching the duo in a shock move.
Asked by Geoff Shreeves what he made of the Everton teamsheet and how they may be setting up for the game, Klopp replied: “To be honest, I didn’t see it, you took me out before you showed me what is on the teamsheet?”
Shreeves replied: “Looks like they may have changed one or two things, we’re trying to work out whether it is a change of system.”
Klopp said: “Ah ok, so I have enough time to figure out that a bit later. But Calvert-Lewin’s playing? Allen’s playing?”
Shreeves confirmed: “Nope, both on the bench.”
That delighted Reds boss Klopp as he instinctively laughed before saying: “Hah! Carlo the poker face!
"So, yeah, good. But I can’t say anything about the lineup because I don’t know it.”
Liverpool have suffered a host of injuries this season, most notably the absence of Virgil van Dijk after he was sidelined in the reverse fixture at Goodison Park.
But Klopp has named an unchanged lineup for the grudge match this evening.
"We couldn't do that too often this season," he explained.
"That's one reason. We had this one day [to prepare], for us it really makes a massive difference.
